Picture This...

I am slightly worried that this week Savidge Reads seems to have become less about books and more about pictures. Is this a bad thing? Well if it is a bad thing then I am very sorry but tough luck for one more day! Maybe this week is subliminally picture book week? Oddly the Booking Through Thursday I missed this week was based on 'graphic novels' maybe there is something in the air? Anyway I am waffling on...

Today is another picture blog while I finish off Midnights Children (which should have been last weeks Savidge Big Reads - no Savidge Big Reads this week) and after that feat is accomplished will then try and read another novel (possibly two) plus all of your book blogs. In fact I will be pretty much spending the whole of this weekend doing as much reading as I can. I need some time reading and relaxing to recuperate from last weekend and a bit of a crazy week. It is in fact something from last weekend that this blog (once I finish rambling) is about. Though my Gran has moved away from our old gorgeous family house...

She does indeed have what I would say is a small dream-like library, a place I can only hope that I have something like one day. A sacred spot that would be simply perfect on a day like today when you are planning very much on spending doing not much else than read. You have had a long week, you need to relax so you walk into that special area where half the room has been turned into wall to wall books...

You pick one from any of the three walls and wander over to your comfy sofa's...

Only there is a slight problem when you are there. Do you read the book or simply stare out of the window (as shown above) at thes stunning view that changes minute by minute for the entire day... believe it or not the picture below doesnt do it justice, its three valleys converging and I could only get one in the shot!
I have to say it would be a good struggle but after ten minutes I know I would be emmersed back in the world of words but what view to ponder a complex twist or some evil doings and dealings of a character? Oh well... I can dream! Where would your dream reading spot be or do you already have it? Where can you picture yourself in the perfect reading surroundings?

I think I just found my dream spot for reading...your house! So if your Gran doesn't still live there, who does? If you posted pictures of this house every week, I'd be OK with it. Gorgeous.

Oh my -- post as many pictures as you have! This looks like paradise to me and since I know I will never venture there in my lifetime, I would love to visit through your photos!

Thanks for sharing.

I for one enjoy the pictures.

My absolute favorite place to read is on any moving train: Brit Rail, Deutchesbahn, New York Subway, Bay Area Rapid Transit. A ferry boat will do in a pinch. I love it. I'm quickly immersed in my book and when I do look up I'm in someplace new.

I'm afraid my perfect place for reading would be somewhere really dull - with nothing to distract me. As long as the chair is comfy I'd like everything else to be as plain as possible.

I want that room.

I don't mind the pictures especially when they are as beautiful as these. What a gorgeous view...one I would be blissfully distracted by...and the room of books...heaven.

I agree with others - the photos are gorgeous so by all means keep them coming! I have different dream reading spots for different times and moods I think. It is coming into winter over here in Australia at the moment so I am thinking of somewhere with a fire and lots of natural light if possible to keep the gloom away.

Love the pictures, Simon, what a great view and wonderful library. Would be happy to see more any time. My favourite place to read is in my library. It is on the top floor of the house, with a view which looks out over the mountains. I have a big comfy chair and switch from view to words and back again often. It is so lovely and I don't mind at all that it takes me much longer to read a book whilst sitting there than just about anywhere else.

Belated replies to all your lovely comments (sorry)!

Sandy - my Gran has the view and bookshelf house but its not the Black and White one... I dont know who lives there which is probably for the best.

Molly - thank you and bever say never!

CB - I have some big train journeys through Switzerland coming so am planing books - though have a feeling I might fall in love with the views.

Jackie - I quite like a distraction now and again stops me getting bored if a book is a bit heavy.

Candy - I think my Gran might fight you or it!

Psmith - YOu are too kind!

Karen - I am quite quite jealous of the fire I dont have a log fire it vexes me!

Kim - I am now very very very jealous of you and your library!
