Postcard Pictures From The Peak District

I thought I would do you a picture postcard blog while I am away of the sort of surroundings that I will be in when I am reading with the peaks at my feet! Seriously while I am away, as this is written in advance, I will have to try an get a picture of my Gran's reading room as its like a book lovers dream. Now mentioning the fact this is in advance I am hoping that the view will be delightfully sunny and joyous like this...

Although it could be foggy like this...

Mind you if it is foggy then the castle on the opposite hill looks really really spooky...

Of course we shouldnt cross out the possibility of snow after all it is Ooop North and anything can happen...

Oh and one final picture, this is the house (now you know I love old haunted houses - I have many a tale from here) where the book addict that yours truly spent pretty much his entire first 10ish years and spent most of the summers there after, I think a blue plaque is called for don't you?

Hope you are all having delightful breaks, oh and dont forget the competition below!

Wow. Amazing views, amazing home. And you don't still live there because...? I am particularly interested in the castle. Any pictures of that? I also need pictures of the reading room. I swear, I'm not sure I'd leave Simon!

I think the Peak District is an amazing landscape whatever the weather. I sometimes think it's better in the fog though! And that castle is spooky (is it Riber Castle?)

They're lovely photo's, it's a shame I've got no real family left up there to visit! I think a trip up there just for the hell of it is in order.

I lived in Macclesfield, Cheshire for a few years when I was younger, and have relatives near Manchester, so know the Peak District quite well. There are some lovely places there.

I love your former home - it looks beautiful!

You do know how to make a guy jealous... I must try to remember that thousands of people come to Oxford as tourists, and it's just me who is always longing to get away from it (not because I don't like Oxford, but because I don't like being surrounded by buildings...)

Which books are you taking with you??

Oh, sorry, I see you've already answered that in the previous post... and now I discover that the reason for going to a beautiful place isn't so happy, but I hope it can be a valuable time nonetheless.

Sandy - My grandparents moved out when I was about 14 (I was inconsolable) because the heating and maintanence bills on a house like that are collosal. I have said one day I would love to buy it back its so full of memories, I dont however think I will get the deal of £2500 my grandparents did back in the 1970s though will I?

Jo - Just go, dont think about it just go go go.

Jackie - Some of my relatives used to live in Macclesfield what a small world!

Simon - It was a good weekend but a draining one... picturesque though which helped!
